There’s something about the written word that transcends time and place. It is a way to capture imaginations and flights of fancy. A practice of documenting runaway thoughts and making sense of them.
—Tennessee Williams
If the writing is honest it cannot be separated from the man who wrote it.
The Word of God, the greastest of all written words commands: Write down the vision; write it clearly on clay tablets so whoever reads it can run to tell others. — Habakkuk 2:2
Back when I was in school, I loved to write. And did so, frequently. In the fourth grade, I had a book published and placed in my elementary school library entitled, “How the Bird got it’s Song.” It only circulated once or twice, but as you can imagine, I was quite pleased with myself. In middle school, I had a wonderful teacher that encouraged me in my writing. I wrote stories and poems, essays and reports. It filled an empty space in me, even if my topics were somewhat maudlin. Writing, back then, was a way to express my teenage angst.
As I grew older, the love of writing did not leave me, but my time for it dryed up. I was either too busy, too tired, or too pulled in another direction! I’ve always had the desire and was given an opportunity to write prayers for the Sacred Treasures (sacredtreasures.online). Pastor CJ Andrews, Founder and Spiritual Life Coach for Treasures, never stopped encouraging me and holding me accountable to start this blog. She knew my desire was to write again.
Now, please don’t think I put myself in the same league as Biblical writers or any of the celebrated authors from Mississippi. I most certainly am not. I am coming to you with each blog post, humbly hoping I’ve imparted some wisdom or given you something to ponder.
“The Lord is commissioning writers for His purposes. He communicates with His people and He uses the written word to do so.” –Gina Conroy, Life Redefined.
I do believe that when the Lord gives a Word, I am obligated to relate it to whomever the message is for, whether it be one person or for the world wide web. Today, I felt impressed to say that writing is a tool. It’s a type of ministry. A way to share the thoughts and talents God imparted to me and to you. I am certain I am not the most proficient or even logical writer. I tend to write the way I talk. I’m not a scholar, but I do have a deep love for the Lord, His people, and the wonderful, written word.
And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said, Write for these words are faithful and true.
Revelation 21:5
Lord Jesus, I thank you for the written word and for the ability, the gift that you have given me to string words together to create vivid pictures that can transport others into seeking You. I do not take this gift for granted. I pray blessings and good will over those who read these words and are encouraged. May they find the courage to pursue their gifts and talents and be able to walk out the brave! Amen.
