If there is one thing I can say about me, it’s that I am an introvert by nature, an enneagram nine, the typical go along to get along….until I wasn’t.
Oh, I’m still an introvert. But I had a bigger goal. I want to know what my task/talent in the kingdom of God is. I prayed and asked, asked and prayed until the Lord answered me. And when He did, I wasn’t ready. In fact, I cried. It was simply too big for little old me! In one sentence, I told God I wasn’t capable, but please don’t take it from me. And fortunately, He hasn’t. Instead He prepared me.
God called me to be a Messenger. Me. A person who shyed away from speaking to others, let alone in a group. I felt a little like Gideon must have felt when God called him a Mighty Warrior (Judges 6:12 NIV).
Believe it or not, I do have experience with public speaking–in competition, no less. Forensics is an organization that is designed to provide students with an overview in speech and debate (snfi.stanford.edu). And I was a participant in high school. Looking back, I see the Lord was already preparing me for what was to come.
Another way I have been prepared is through the use of One Word (The Jon Gordon Companies). Since 2017, I have been challenged through the word the Lord led me too. Words like Old Soil (Hosea 10:12), Transformation (Romans 12:2), Chosen (John 15:16), Stand Firm (I Peter 5:9), Dominion (Genesis 1: 26-28, Brave (Joshua 1:9) and Kairos (Isaiah 60:22 At the right time, I, the Lord, will make it happen.).
Am I totally there? No, but I am learning to “Walk out the Brave” and speak up. I’m learning to discern the Kairos Word of God and declare it out loud to those who need to hear it. I’m taking this big step to communicate with the written word.
